Cataract Surgery at Southern Day Surgery
See more … Do more
The term Cataract refers to the clouding of the natural lens of the eye due to ageing. This means your retina receives poor quality images and cannot send clear "sight" messages to the brain. A simple check-up can accurately identify and diagnose any sign of cataracts. Symptoms vary because cataracts form in different ways but usually you will notice your vision has gradually diminished or you have trouble with glare.
What do you do if you think you have a cataract?
If you think you have a cataract then ask your GP or Optometrist to refer you to Southern Eye Centre. A full check-up at Southern Eye Centre will promptly assess your condition and recommend treatment. Modern treatment can remove cataracts as soon as they begin to be of concern.
Painless Cataract Microsurgery.
Using only drops for anaesthesia we can often avoid the use of needles, stitches and eye pads for cataract surgery. Our surgeons use the most modern small incision techniques to make your cataract surgery safe and painless. The "no stitch" incision seals itself straight after surgery and our Day Surgery means you are back home the same day and can usually resume normal daily activities the next.
A tiny lens is implanted permanently into the eye to replace the focusing power of the original lens. Our technicians use the most advanced diagnostic measurement system to correctly calculate the power of the lens implant and our results are equal to the best in the world. It is now possible to put a multifocal lens in your eye that may allow you to see for both distance and near without glasses.
